The Peugeot Expert has been out for quite a few years by now and has been gaining in popularity due to its size and weight carrying capabilities. This is our customers second Expert van having bought his first Expert brand new in 2018. That van was the 1.6L variant and he opted for a change with his 2020 purchase opting for the bigger 2.0 L engine however he remained steadfast when it came to protecting his van – Feynlab all the way.
This van was bought from a dealer in the south of the country and was driven to us with 600km on the clock. Our strict procedures were put in place from measuring the paint depth when it came in to following our winning formula of detarring and iron removal products. So with that in mind all of the tar it had accumulated was removed and after no less than four separate applications of Krystal Kleen Detail Ferrum iron remover were required to remove all of the iron! I can only presume it was stored near a railway or a manufacturing workshop as I can’t remember when I last had a vehicle this bad with iron build up which shows that it is very important to adhere to the same rigorous steps to ensure a quality finish every time. We finished down the decontamination process by using our trusted clay sponge and a Krystal Kleen Detail Mist X.
The paintwork is polished using Feynlab F500 Medium Cut polishing compound and a medium cut polishing pad to remove any scratches and marring that was present and was refined using a finishing foam pad and Feynlab F1000 Final Finish ensuring a uniform finish leaving a beautiful mirror-like finish that leaves the vehicle far sharper looking than when it was delivered!
The Expert’s Obsidian Black was very very sticky to work with even after all of the decontamination steps were adhered to which proves that preparation is key especially with a black vehicle as any marring that is inflicted will show up a lot more than lighter colours.
The pre coating stages are essential to how well the coating will bond and perform when installed and Feynlab has that area covered as well ! Feynlab Wash flushes out any oils or airborne contaminants that may have become embedded in the paintwork when polishing. We then follow that process up with Feynlab Prime which fills in any microscopic indentations that the polishing process could not remove and leaves down an excellent “key” for the coating to adhere to. If these products are not used especially on sticky paints then application of a coating becomes extremely difficult as it will affect how quickly a coating goes off.
The customers’ specification regarding coating were quite simple, every surface on the van was to be coated from bumpers lights front and rear wheels paintwork and all of the interior was to be coated including the seats and plastic. This level of coating has only been requested on a handful of occasions and is usually reserved for high end vehicles. Ceramic Lite was applied to the front side door windows and mirrors along with the front headlamps and rear tail lights. Feynlab Plastic was applied to the front and rear plastic bumpers. Ceramic 3 Year Ceramic with Top Coat was what the customer opted for his paintwork protection and it was applied to the vehicle two panels at a time, was allowed to slowly cure in a temperature controlled and humidity controlled environment and was removed using a high GSM microfibre cloth. We then applied the Top Coat to the panels after the specified time set out by Feynlab which was allowed to cure and the excess removed. The exterior coating part of the project was finished by using Feynlab Wheel and Caliper on the four wheel rims.
We then had the laborious and methodical process of curing each panel of the van with the Infrared curing lamp to ensure an excellent cross link between the coating and the paintwork.
Whilst one side of the van was being cured using the I.R. lamp we were the opposite side applying Feynlab Plastic to the door cards, rubber mats and the dashboard. We also applied Feynlab Textile to the fabric seats.
This was definitely a far harder coating job than I had expected and I was under a tight timeline to get it done over a weekend! I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and I was delighted that the procedures and techniques that we use are so effective against solving problems that we cannot necessarily see straight away and that we are saving time and money and that we have a uniform level of quality workmanship being delivered to the client every time.
