Mercedes E Class Repainted Car

The backstory of how we ended up polishing and coating a brand new now repainted car is that it belonged to a long term customer of ours who traded up to this brand new E Class model, unfortunately for him, some jealous man did not like that he a new car and took a screwdriver to EVERY panel on the car damaging it beyond anything only a full repaint.

So fast forward a few weeks after we had seen the vehicle and he brought it in for a wash. Unfortunately the body shop left the car with random scratches, swirling, marring and even sandpaper marks in both the paint and the rear tail lights! The bonnet had a lot of polish dried into it and the boot had random scratches all over. The side faired the same way unfortunately and was going to require extensive work to rectify the once flawless Obsidian Black Paintwork.

We started by applying a citrus based pre spray a number of times to allow it time to break down all of the dried in polish that were present in all of the door edges and the edges of the boot and bonnet. This was a time expensive process that requires patience to ensure that marks are not being inflicted. Once all of the hardened polish had been removed we then moved onto thoroughly washing the vehicle and removing any tar and iron deposits from the paintwork and finishing off the decontamination process by using a clay sponge and spray detailer. The clay sponge proved invaluable in this instance as there were some areas that had “dry” patches that we were able to flatten down and make smooth which makes polishing each panel a far easier task than if not clayed.

We then used a rotary polisher extensively on the paintwork to ensure all heavy scratches were removed from each panel, Feynlab F100 Heavy Cut was used with a wool head to perform this task. We then moved onto a medium and the soft finishing head to refine and restore the gloss that was sorely missing from the paint when we started this car. A number of very very long days later and it was completed.

A herculean effort was required to remove all of the sandpaper in particular, the rear lenses were in particularly bad shape and required nearly two hours each to remove the scratches and restore the gloss before getting a coating of Feynlab Plastic to protect them into the future.

The paintwork was a different matter and although the customer wanted the car ceramic coated we advised against it as the paint had not had enough time to gas out as it was only short of four weeks completed. We instead applied Ceramic Spray Sealent to the paintwork to ensure that all of hard work would not be undone.

The interior was cleaned using KKD Lush Leather gel and then coated using Feynlab Leather Coating.

This was a monumental restoration job which called on every ounce of skill and experience that we had to restore it to a factory finish. The customer was delighted with the finish and was even happier that the very expensive rear lights would not have to be replaced! The Obsidian Black paintwork really looked how it should with a deep dark intensity restored showing off the curvatures and indentations of this newly designed and sculpted bodywork.
