Issues ; Convertible top needed deep clean and coating, swirled and marred paintwork, leather deep clean, application of 3 year coating with OverCoat.
Solution ; Refinement of paintwork, tailights and head lights, Deep clean of convertible roof, Fabric Sealent, Leather Sealent, Application of 3 Year Ceramic Lite Coating alongside wheel ceramic.
Result ; Resounding depth of gloss of paintwork, as new freshly coated leather, as new freshly coated convertible roof, coated plastics, coated wheels.
This Japanese beast came in after the owner saw a Range Rover that we had polished and coated in solid black and knew we could turn his car around. This was a low mileage example that had been meticulously maintained by the previous owner which always points to the current owner to be an aficionado about this particular marque. He only had the car a few months but wanted the paint work polished and coated along with the interior deep cleaned and coated and the convertible top needed a deep clean and a coating applied.
I started by thoroughly washing the vehicle using a citrus based pre cleaner and removing any tar and iron deposits from the paintwork and finishing off the decontamination process by using a clay sponge and spray detailer. The paint on these are notoriously soft and I was extra careful on the paintwork not to marr it anywhere.
I then had a mammoth task ahead of me so started by deep cleaning the convertible top and removing years of dirt and grime and moss. After it was all removed we then fully dried the fabric top and applied Renovo Black restoration colour dye allowing this to dry for 24 hours and then applying Renovo waterproofer as a final stage of protection.We then let that dry overnight and covered the top the following day and went to work or rectifying the paintwork.
We then opted for a rotary, wool head and Feynlab Medium Cut to remove a plethora of deep scratches, random marks and swirling. We then refined the paint with Feynlab Final Cut and a finishing pad to refine down the super soft paint. This has to be one of the hardest paints to refine without marring and took some different speed and angles to get the correct method to refine the paint without causing more inflictions.
The pre coating stages are essential to how well the coating will bond and perform when installed and Feynlab has that area covered as well ! Feynlab Wash flushes out any oils or airborne contaminants that may have become embedded in the paintwork when polishing. We then follow that process up with Feynlab Prime which fills in any microscopic indentations that the polishing process could not remove and leaves down an excellent “key” for the coating to adhere to.
The coating of choice for this customer was Ceramic 3 Year with Feynlab OverCoat for the paintwork and Krystal Kleen Detail Revolve X for the wheels both of which were cured using infrared curing to ensure the best possible cross link between the coating and paint.
The interior was hoovered and the carpeting was wet vacuumed and dried and Feynlab Textile was used on the carpeting and removable mats. The leather was cleaned using KKD Lush Leather and was coated using Feynlab Leather to ensure the interior was protected to the same high levels as the exterior. The dash also had a generous coating of Feynlab Plastic to protect the dash from sun bleaching.
The convertible to after a thorough deep clean had a 2 coats of Renovo Black applied 24 hours apart and was then top coated using Renovo Waterproofer to lock in all of the dye and our hard work!
The windows and windscreen were cleaned and the tyres were dressed with Feynlab Black Velvet to complete the detailing job.
This was one of the most difficult jobs I have completed to date and took a lot of skill and testing to get even a simple method of polishing the paint without damaging it at the same time. The customer was so happy he booked the vintage car he owns for the same treatment, proof as if we needed it that we are doing a good job!
